The Advanced Placement (AP) Program is based on the premise that college-level material can be learned by able and well-prepared secondary school students. Participating colleges, in turn, grant credit and/or appropriate placement to students who have done well on the AP Examinations.
The AP grading scale may be interpreted as follows:
| 5 = extremely well qualified |
4 = well qualified |
3 = qualified |
In 2008, Mountain Brook students took 722 AP Exams with 84% of the exams scored 3 or better.
