Writing Opportunities
Throughout the year I will inform you of writing contests.  I will post the contest rules and procedures on this site.  I will award extra credit for poems, essays, and short stories entered into these contests. 

 
Reading Opportunities

From time to time I will give suggestions for books, articles, plays, etc.  If you choose to read one of these and then give a talk about the selection, you can receive extra credit.  Such reading selections must be chosen and discussed with Mrs. Trimm at least two weeks prior to the end of each grading period.

Research Opportunities
Periodically I will give students the opportunity to do research that will either introduce the students to a person, place, or idea, or I will allow students to further enhance what they have already learned by digging deeper into a topic or expanding it.  Students will  be asked to present this information with the other students in an engaging manner.   

Parents Can Earn Extra Credit for You!
Parents may volunteer to attend either your class or another class that I teach and give a brief "Book Talk" about what they are currently reading and why they enjoyed it or they may visit for a brief talk about the importance of writing in their chosen profession.  Have your parents email me for details or to set up a time to come.  I also welcome grandparents and family friends who would like to take an active part in your education.
