A native of Atlanta Georgia, Mrs. Menendez graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in economics and business administration. Upon graduation, she worked for the IBM Corporation in marketing for seven years, retiring in 1985 to raise a family. She and her husband Don have four children. Currently Mrs. Menendez is co-director of small group ministries at the Cathedral Church of the Advent. She also does some garden consulting. 

Mrs. Menendez has been actively involved in the Mountain Brook Schools for many years. She has been PTA President for Mountain Brook High School, Mountain Brook Junior High and Cherokee Bend Elementary. She has served on the Grading Scale Task Force and the Mountain Brook Funding Task Force, and was involved with the initial campaign for the Mountain Brook City Schools Foundation. She has also been active in the Birmingham Botanical Society, the Junior League, the Young Life Committee, the Friends of the Emmet O'Neal library, and in her church.
