Mike Thompson is a graduate of Mountain Brook High School and the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science Degree in General Business. He is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of the following organizations: Thompson Tractor Co., Inc., the Caterpillar dealer for the state of Alabama and ten counties in Northwest Florida; Fairway Investments, a real estate development company; and Thompson Investments, an investment company. He is the Chairman of Tiger Machinery, the Caterpillar dealer for five regions in Russia and the Far East.
Mr. Thompson is an active member of the community who has served in numerous capacities both in charitable and business affiliations. His current involvements on various boards include the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham Zoo, Crippled Children's Foundation, Newcomen Society, Rotary Club of Birmingham, Salvation Army Advisory Board, and the University of Alabama President's Council. Previously he served on the boards of many organizations, including the Alabama Alliance of Business, American Red Cross, Birmingham YMCA, and UAB Health Systems. His past affiliations also include the United Way Campaign, the Canterbury Church Finance Committee, the PGA Golf Championship Co-Chairman, and the Campaign for Alabama Co-Chairman.
Mr. Thompson has been actively involved in various school system capacities as well. He served on the Board of the Mountain Brook Schools Foundation, which is a privately endowed financial partner with the school system. He was on the Mountain Brook School Funding Task Force which advised the City and Board of Education on the financial outlook of the school system. He was a founding member of the Mountain Brook Sports Corporation, a private initiative devoted to supporting local school sports developments. |
