Small Group Professional Learning Project
Application for Summer 2012
As a part of the Mountain Brook Summer Professional Learning Program, teachers will be provided with the opportunity to participate in professional learning that is unique to their subject area or grade level needs. Once again, teachers may write a proposal to request time, resources, and a $70.00 per day stipend to meet with colleagues in order to improve student achievement. Teachers may participate in PLCs, grade level/department teams, or book studies, in order to work with others to plan effective, engaging, and challenging lessons or common assessments.
In order to participate, teachers need to present their idea to their assistant principal or staff development specialist to ensure that it follows the philosophy of the system-wide instructional programs. Upon approval of the idea, they need to meet with their small group to develop a proposal that will be submitted to a selection committee made up of assistant principals, staff development specialists, Missy Brooks, and Lanie Kent. Selection will be based on the following criteria:
· The degree of potential benefit to students by providing engaging work
· The likelihood that the project will achieve its objectives
· The degree to which the project promotes collaboration among educators through the PLC model
· The degree to which the project supports the Mountain Brook Curriculum Frameworks
If your project is approved, you will be expected to return to your lead teacher or assistant principal the following:
· Sign in form
· Evaluation forms
· Summary of project
Please return this application to your assistant principal by April 27, 2012. Any applications turned in after the due date may not be accepted.
