Test Score Interpretation

Alabama Reading and Math Test Plus

Introduction

All students in grades 3-8 take the Alabama Reading and Math Test (ARMT+) in April of each school year.  Parents receive results late in the summer.  These results are entitled “Home Report for ________.”

Alabama Reading and Math Test Plus

The top part of the Home Report deals with the ARMT+. The ARMT+ is a criterion referenced test which means your child was measured against a pre-established set of standards.  The standards (objectives) are directly related to the curriculum taught to your child.  The score for this test comes from some items on the Stanford 10 – ones that match the Alabama and Mountain Brook standards and all the items on the ARMT+.  The test itself is made up of multiple choice questions, gridded responses and open-ended questions.  Each section of the test is scored and results reported with a scaled score which corresponds to an Achievement Level.  A scaled score is derived from the raw score (number correct out of the number possible) and allows a comparison on the same subtest (reading or math) from year to year.  The Achievement Levels are as follows:

Level 1 – Does not meet standards

Level 2 – Partially meets standards

            Level 3 – Meets standards

            Level 4 – Exceeds standards

Reading

Your child’s achievement level is based on the overall scaled score earned on the reading list. In reading, the achievement levels correspond to the following scaled scores:

Level 1 (Does not meet standards):  Below 600

            Level 3 (Meets standards): 600-652

Level 4 (Exceeds standards): Above 686

You can see your child’s scaled score and corresponding achievement level in the top sections of the Home Report.  Students who scored at Levels III or IV have an understanding of grade level standards/material.  A list of the content standards measured in each area and the number your child got correct out of the number possible for each standard are listed below these boxes.  These boxes actually show you his/her strengths and weaknesses in the areas of reading and math.
