Welcome! Dr. Beenken enjoys teaching reading,writing and English related skills in an engaging way to students. She has an Honors English degree, as well as a Masters in English education, and finally, a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. She has worked as a writing consultant for the Department of Education, and has taught as an adjunct at the University level. She has given many presentations on teaching writing to teachers across the state. She was Nationally Board Certified in 2000, and re-certified in 2010, and also worked as a National Board screener for several years. She has been the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship and also received the Most Outstanding Alumni award from UAB.
Dr. Beenken will be teaching Creative Writing and a Reading elective this year. She looks forward to engaging and motivating readers and writers this year!
Dr. Beenken has two sons, one a nephrology doctor in New York and the other son is a choir conductor and nursing student. She also is a mother-in law to Vivian who holds a Ph.D. in Education economics. Ruth Beenken sings in several choirs and enjoys the arts and Bible study.
