Mr. Tony Johnson

 

 

 

Coach Johnson is a graduate of Geraldine High School and a 1993 graduate of the University of North Alabama, with a degree in social science education.  After graduating, Coach Johnson returned to UNA as a graduate student and played his fifth year of eligibility.  That year, UNA won the first of three consecutive Division II National Championships.  Coach Johnson also holds a masters degree in social science education from UAB, driver’s education certification from the University of Montevallo, health education certification, Physical Education (Praxis) and an EdS in Administration from Lincoln Memorial University.

 

He began his coaching career as an offensive line and defensive line coach at Walker High School under head coach Chris Yeager.  After spending two years there, Coach Johnson went to Hewitt-Trussville High School where he spent six years coaching offensive line under head coach Jack Wood.  After Coach Wood’s retirement, Johnson took an opportunity to become offensive coordinator at Pelham High School.  With an opportunity to move a little closer to where he lived, he took a job at Pinson Valley High School.  For three years he was their offensive coordinator and also coached quarterbacks and offensive line, until accepting the head coaching position at Dora High School.  From Dora, Coach Johnson coached linebackers and was defensive coordinator for Pell City High School.  In 2009, he became the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for Ashville High School.  2012 presented the opportunity to go to Leeds High School as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.  He was the head coach at North Jackson High before coming to Mountain Brook.  Coach Johnson’s has a wife in education, and three children. Coach Johnson will coach football and indoor and outdoor track.
