Derek Dearman

  • This is Derek Dearman’s twenty-second year in education.  This is his seventh year at MBJH.  The three years prior to that he served as Principal of Montevallo High School.  Before that, he spent nine years at Oak Mountain High School where he served in a variety of positions including Ninth Grade Assistant Principal (2 years), Tenth Grade Assistant Principal (1 year), Social Sciences Teacher (6 years), and Head Varsity Boys’ Soccer Coach (6 years).

    Mr. Dearman received his B.S. in Political Science from The University of Montevallo (1995), His M.A. in Secondary Education from The University of Alabama at Birmingham (1999), his Administrative Certification (2004) and his Educational Specialist Degree (2012) from the University of Montevallo.

    Mr. Dearman currently serves in the Alabama Army National Guard as Commander of the 440th Chemical Company.  Before joining the Alabama National Guard in 2011, he served 14 years in the Navy Reserves as a Navy SeaBee (1992-2006).  He is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

    Mr. Dearman enjoys spending time with his family, attending and participating in sporting events, and traveling.
