Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Austin

I am so excited to begin my eighth year at Cherokee Bend and my TWENTY-FIFTH year as a teacher! This is an amazing place, and I absolutely love spending my days with the incredible staff and extraordinary students at CBS!

I am originally from Huntsville, Alabama. I lived for a while in Texas and then in Colorado. But, I felt the pull of Home Sweet Home and have been back in Alabama for almost 20 years. My husband and I have one daughter, Shelby, who (along with her two cats) I am absolutely obsessed with in every way!  Most of my family is divided between Huntsville and Florida, and I love to spend as much time as possible with them. I have a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado, an Education Specialist degree in Elementary Education from UAB, and I am a National Board Certified Teacher. I have taught fifth grade as well as middle school English over the course of my career. I thoroughly enjoy the unique perspectives and experiences that intermediate-age students bring to their learning.

I am looking forward to a wonderful new year!
