Dr. Paul Kustos
The 2020-2021 school year is Dr. Kustos's fifth at Mountain Brook High School, 17th year of teaching at the high school level, and first year teaching during a public health pandemic. He has taught courses in the following mathematics areas: algebra 2, precalculus, calculus, abstract algebra, number theory, probability, and linear algebra. This year he will be teaching advanced precalculus; dual enrollment calculus III (in the fall); dual enrollment linear algebra (in the spring); and accelerated algebra 2 with trig and precalculus, a course he designed and piloted in his first year at MBHS. He is also the math team sponsor at Mountain Brook High School.
Dr. Kustos graduated from Hoover High School (1997) and has a Bachelor of Science (2000, summa cum laude) degree in Mathematics and a Master of Science (2003) degree in Mathematics from Auburn University. He also has a Doctor of Philosophy (2010) degree in Secondary Curriculum & Instruction for Mathematics from The University of Alabama. His doctoral dissertation can be found here.
Dr. Kustos is married and has a daughter—he loves spending time with his family. He also enjoys listening to and collecting records and music; reading; listening to podcasts; playing ultimate; bowling; riding his bicycles (2002 Diamondback Topanga Comp Hardtail, 2010 Trek 2.1); and working crossword puzzles, logic puzzles, and Sudokus.
