Loretta Mayfield Rowan

Loretta Mayfield Rowan believes her greatest achievement is to be called TEACHER. She loves teaching and learning. She has taught Kindergarten, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Graders during her thirty plus years at Mountain Brook Elementary. To prepare for this wonderful career, she attended N.H. Price Elementary School, Jones Valley High School, and Samford University in Homewood and London. She is so grateful to her parents, teachers, staff, and professors! She received the Margaret Spencer Ragland Award for Distinguished Service from the Mountain Brook Board of Education in 2005. She even had the tall honor of having a giraffe named after her at the Birmingham Zoo in 2006. Rowan, the giraffe, now lives in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Zoo. In 2011, Mrs. Rowan was nominated for Alabama Teacher of the Year. She loves her students and is inspired by them daily. She continues to have tall expectations for lofty learning! Samford University honored her in 2018 with a Learning for Life Award.
