Abby Spurlin

Hi! My name is Abby Spurlin and I am honored to be the Preschool teacher at Cherokee Bend. I am so proud of our inclusive preschool program and all of the resources that we have to offer to our students.

The Cherokee Bend Preschool Classroom is currently accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year! The Mountain Brook Schools strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of both typically developing young children and those with special needs. The program was developed to provide opportunities for children with disabilities to receive instruction and services in an inclusive preschool classroom with peer role models. Each year, openings are available for “peer model” children. Peer Models attend Monday-Thursday from 8-12:30. For more information or to obtain an application, please contact Cory Morris at the Board of Education: 205-414-3836. We would love to have your child join us and be one of our “Little Chiefs”!

I grew up in Tuscaloosa and then attended Auburn University where I received my bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. I then completed my master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. I love being apart of the Cherokee Bend family. I am trained at the comprehensive level in Orton-Gillingham from The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education. When I am not working, I love to travel, exercise, and spend time with my friends and family. I absolutely love living in Birmingham and I love taking advantage of all the fun restaurants and activities that our city has to offer. GO CHIEFS!
