Mr. Dustin Day

Mr. Day is a fifth year Spanish teacher with a passion for teaching students about the Spanish language and culture. He graduated from the University of North Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature and Culture in the Spring of 2019. After graduation, he worked as a Spanish teacher at Sylacauga City Schools for two years while working on his master's degree. In 2021, Mr. Day earned a Master of Arts in Second Language Acquisition from his alma mater. Mr. Day came to Mountain Brook in 2021, in which he first taught Spanish I, then transitioned to Spanish II. He is currently enrolled in the Specialist Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for TESOL. Mr. Day is also an online Spanish teacher through ACCESS and a certified AAPPL rater. In his free time, he enjoys camping, hiking, and traveling.

Mr. Day believes that the best way to learn a language is through comprehensible input. Comprehensible input is when students are exposed to language that is slightly above their current level of understanding. This allows them to learn new vocabulary and grammar without feeling overwhelmed. In his classroom, he uses a variety of techniques to provide comprehensible input, such as using visuals, gestures, and repetition. In the classroom environment, students are encouraged to use the language as much as possible.

Mr. Day is committed to creating a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. He believes that everyone has the ability to learn a new language, and he is excited to help his students reach their full potential.
