Cross Country Storms Through Sectionals, Now State Bound
Thursday, October 27, 2022 -- The Mountain Brook High School varsity cross country teams cruised to victory on Thursday morning at Veteran's Park in Hoover during the 6A sectionals meet to qualify for state.
The girls team had seven runners finish in the top 10, including a first-place finish from senior, Reagan Riley. The second-place finisher in the girls race crossed the line 71 seconds after Riley.
"We were looking to set the tone for next week," head coach Michael McGovern said. "We want to know that we are ready to go for the state meet."
The Spartan trio consisting of Clayton Collins, Harry Clark and Braden Little were the first runners through the finish line in the boys race. Mountain Brook ended up with five runners in the top 10 to secure the victory.
"To come away with a victory today is a big confidence booster for next week," McGovern said. "Our goal is here at the end and our team has focused on that."
The state meet will take place on Saturday, November 5 in Oakville, AL.
