MBS March Board of Education Meeting Report


  • Wednesday, March 13, 2024 – The Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education met Monday, March 11 at the Charles Mason Building (Board of Education) for the district’s monthly board meeting. Below is a rundown of the meeting:
    Board members present: Jenifer Kimbrough, Nicky Barnes, Anna Comer and Daniel Odrezin.

    Board Meeting Agenda

    The meeting opened by approving minutes from the last board meeting.

    Recognitions:

    • The MBJH and MBHS All-State Choir members were recognized for their All-State honors. These students are: Levi Lawrenz, Joseph Estevez, Will Eagan, Luke Cribbs, Ella Kate O’Flinn, Wren Emory-Johnson, Mack Daniel, Collin Webb, Olivia Mahoney, Olivia Carns, Maggie Bearden, Samantha Wedell, Sam Eagan.

    • The MBHS wrestling team was recognized for their historic season in winning the Duals State Championship as well as the Traditional State Championship!The coaching staff along with head coach Justin Ransom received Coach of the Year awards as well.

    • MBHS Senior, Hannah Parant, was recognized for being named the Alabama volleyball Gatorade Player of the Year!

    • MBHS Senior, Kenneth Robinson, was recognized for winning the 2023 Congressional App Challenge!

    Reports to the Board:

    MBS Chief School Financial Officer, Kari Austin, presented board members with the district’s monthly financial statements which were unanimously approved. MBS Facilities Director, Tommy Prewitt, presented the monthly facilities update.

    New business:

    • The board unanimously approved the latest personnel recommendations and unanimously approved miscellaneous items as surplus so that they can be discarded/donated/sold.

    • Dr. Missy Brooks presented the Alabama State Seal of Biliteracy to the board members which was approved.

    March announcements: 

    • March 25-29, 2024 - Spring Break: All schools and offices closed.

    • The next Board Meeting will take place on Monday, April 8th at 3:30 p.m. at the Charles Mason Building (Board of Education) with the work session starting at 2:00 p.m.

    • Monday April 29, 2024 - Student Showcase in Crestline Village from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
