April Board Meeting Report

    • Tuesday, April 9, 2024 – The Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education met Monday, April 8 at the Charles Mason Building (Board of Education) for the district’s monthly board meeting. Below is a rundown of the meeting:

    • Board members present: Jenifer Kimbrough, Jeffrey Brewer, Nicky Barnes, Anna Comer and Daniel Odrezin.

    • Board Meeting Agenda

      The meeting opened by approving minutes from the last board meeting.


      • The robotics program was recognized for qualifying for the world competition! The Mountain Brook-based teams will participate in the VEX IQ robotics international challenge with students from around the globe at the beginning of May. The event will take place in Dallas, Texas!

      • Celina Miller was recognized for being named the Most Outstanding Graduate Student at UAB! Celina works at Crestline Elementary School.

      Reports to the Board:

      MBS Chief School Financial Officer, Kari Austin, presented board members with the district’s monthly financial statements, which were unanimously approved. The school district's auditor reported the FY23 Audit Report. Finally, MBS Facilities Director, Tommy Prewitt, presented the monthly facilities update.

      • The board unanimously approved the latest personnel recommendations and unanimously approved miscellaneous items as surplus so that they can be discarded/donated/sold.

      • The AP Psychology curriculum course revisions were tabled for community review and input. (Email brooksm@mtnbrook.k12.al.us with questions or concerns)

      • The MBJH renovation project for summer work was awarded to Murray Building Company, Inc.
      • The Mountain Brook Schools elementary schools renovation project bid was awarded to Clements Dean Building Company.

      April announcements: 

      • Monday April 29, 2024 - Student Showcase in Crestline Village from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

      • The next Board Meeting will take place on Monday, May 20th at 3:30 p.m. at the Charles Mason Building (Board of Education) with the work session starting at 2:00 p.m.

      • MBHS graduation will take place on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center at Samford University.
