I have been an art teacher at Crestline Elementary since 1998. I previously taught middle and high school art, French and English for 6 1//2 years in Shelby County Schools.
I grew up in Mountain Brook and I attended Mountain Brook Elementary. I went to college in Virginia and I lived in Paris for a year while studying French. After graduation, I moved and worked in New York City for 3 years while I attended the Art Students League and studied with various artists. I moved to California and I worked in Palo Alto and Los Angelos.
After returning to Birmingham, I received my Masters in Art Education at University of Montevallo and I began to teach. I achieved National Board Certification in Art in 2010. I started my family in Birmingham and all four of my children attended Brookwood Forest Elementary. Currently, my children attend Mountain Brook Schools, UAB and University of South Alabama.
In my classroom, the students will be doing various projects. For example during Celebrate Writing, every year the art teachers prepare new art lessons based on our guest authors, illustrators and musicians. We collaborate with the classroom teachers to enhance the students' experience and appreciation for that particular guest.
My lessons are discipline based and combine studio techniques, art history and art theory. Students explore various 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional media including painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic art and ceramics. If you have any questions, I would love to hear from you via email.
