Degrees and Certifications:
My parents always told me to find something I loved to do, so work would never seem like work...and boy have I taken their advice to heart! I have the best "job" in the world, teaching here at Crestline Elementary.
My days at Crestline begun long ago, as I too went to elementary school here at Crestline from 1st through 7th grade. After graduating from Mountain Brook High School, I attended St. Mary's College in Raleigh, NC where I received my Associate of Arts Degree. I then spent my junior year "abroad", studying art and art history in London, England at Richmond College. That year I had numerous opportunities to travel and this instilled a love for research, learning about other cultures, visiting architectural sites and touring museums. After returning to the U.S., I completed my studies at UAB, graduating with a Bachelor's degree with studies in art history, studio art and psychology.
After working at different levels within art galleries and a local department store (Parisian's), running/owning a beach service in Panama City, I decided to go back to school and received my degree to teach art education at Birmingham Southern in 1992. Since then I have worked within Birmingham City Schools, Jefferson County Schools, Trussville Schools and now I have "returned home" to teach here within the Mountain Brook School system. I am Nationally Board Certified, served as the Elementary Division Chair of our state's art education association for two years and was awarded a Fellow with Fund for Teachers, which provided me with a professional development opportunity to travel, research and study the artists of the Catalan culture of Spain and France.
I feel like everyday is Christmas in our art room, seeing the creative art works of our children and the ways they express themselves. I believe that every child is an artist... some are fantastic illustrators, some talk about art with the critical eye of an expert, others just have the most creative ideas! My job is to find what part of the art world is the key to motivate each child and then help him or her discover some special artistic talent.
Thank you for blessing me with these wonderful kids.
