I was born on the island of Mindanao, Philippines and grew up in Starkville, Mississippi where I graduated from Starkville High School. After earning my Bachelor of Science in Biology at Millsaps College, I entered the Mississippi Teacher Corp at the University of Mississippi in Oxford where I earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. My first teaching assignment was in Greenville, Mississippi teaching seventh grade science, and after two years went on to teach high school biology in Missouri and in West Virginia, and now Alabama. I came to the Mountain Brook Schools system in 2002 and have taught both 8th and 9th grade at Mountain Brook Junior High. I currently teach ninth grade biology and advanced biology.
Here at Mountain Brook Junior High, I am a member of a science department that works collaboratively teaching within the grade level and vertically among the grades through our Professional Learning Community (PLC). The biology department is staffed by three National Board Certified Teachers who incorporate the latest teaching strategies and technologies to meet National, State, and Local Science Standards. We also work with special education teachers through collaborative biology classes. My classroom goal for us as student, parent, or teacher is to have a productive and successful school year finding answers to scientific questions.
