Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Marisa Burns
I grew up in Orlando, Florida, and attended Auburn University where I majored in biology with minors in chemistry and physics. It was at Auburn where I met my husband. We have six children, five girls and one boy. My eldest two daughters, Mariel and Tara, live in Manhattan, NYC. They have too much going on to list!! My third daughter, Kaitlin and her husband Drew, live in Austin, TX, where Kaitlin is a student at UT Austin, pursuing her doctorate in Latin American Studies. My son, John, lives in Atlanta and will be getting married to Allison in March, and my fifth child, Hannah, is a chemical engineer and lives in Chattanooga with her husband, Goose. My youngest, Lilla, will be a freshman at Auburn this year after attending Mountain Brook Schools for K-12. Though I will be an empty nester after 37 years, I do have two lovable pups, Josh, a toy poodle, and Koda, a rescue dog--think sweet, black (golden) retriever--that's Koda.
After staying at home with my children for many years, and actually home schooling while living in Atlanta, I returned to school, UAB, in 2002, to earn my masters in secondary science education. I became a National Board Certified teacher in 2009.
This year is my 14th year at the junior high. I have taught physical science, and currently teach biology. I love this subject which teaches about how intricately the living world is designed and how organisms interact for good and for bad. I hope that each of my students can become as fascinated with the living world as I am.
