• Writing Prompts:

    Descriptive:

    Describe a fair, carnival, or amusement park to a friend. You may want to describe how it looks, smells, and sounds and how you feel when you are there.

    There are many special events such as concerts, sporting events, and pep rallies that teenagers enjoy.  Think of a special event that you have attended.  Describe this special event.  You may want to describe how it looked, smelled, and sounded, as a well as how you felt while you were there.

    The four seasons are all very different.  What is your favorite season? Describe your favorite season of the ear.  You may want to include how it looks, smells, and sounds as well as how you feel during your favorite seasons of the year.

    Some people love the morning while others love the nighttime.  Describe your favorite time of day.   You may want to describe how it looks, sounds, and smells, as well as how your favorite time of the day makes you feel.

    Narrative:

    A friend saw something bright flying through the air. Write a story about what happened.

    Pretend that you and a friend are walking through the woods, and something starts following you. Write a story about what happens next.

    Expository:

    Some people think that students today watch too much television.  Think about whether television helps or hurts a person.  Explain how you feel about students watching television.

    There are good and bad things about being in seventh grade.  Write an essay explaining both the good and the bad things about seventh grade. Be sure to supply specific examples.

    There are good and bad things about living in Alabama.  Write an essay for your teacher explaining both the good and the bad things about living in Alabama.  Be sure to supply reasons and/or specific examples.

    There has been an increase in violence in U.S. schools over the past few years.  Write an essay explaining why you think violence is such a problem in U.S. schools. Be sure to supply reasons and/ or specific details.

     

     

    Persuasive:

    An animal rights group wants to stop people from using animals for testing medical drugs.  Decide whether you are for or against using animals to test drugs, and then write to the animal group.  State your opinion and persuade the group to support your opinion.  Be sure to include your reasons and/or specific examples.

    Your cafeteria staff has decided to offer students only all-vegetable meals. Scientists want to see how a vegetarian diet affects growing teenagers.  Do you think this is a good or a bad idea/ Write a persuasive letter to your school board stating your opinion and explaining why you feel this way.  Be sure to supply convincing reasons and or specific examples.

    Your school board is considering a new school schedule that starts at 10:00 and ends at 5:00.
