Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Charles F. Henry
I have been a music educator in Birmingham for over ten years, beginning my teaching career at Pinson Valley High School then spending five years at Spain Park High School before coming to Mountain Brook.
I am a 2007 cum laude graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a degree in Music Education- Vocal/Choral Concentration.
Choirs under my direction have consistently received superior ratings at State, Regional, and National Festivals and have earned the "Distinguished Musicianship Award" from the Alabama Vocal Association six years in a row. During my time at Spain Park, the show choirs under my direction consistently placed in regional competitions and earned best vocals, best choreography, and best overall effect in the past.
In 2013, my choirs were invited to perform Morten Lauridsen's masterpiece "Lux Aeterna" in Carnegie Hall under the direction of Dr. John Ratledge, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Alabama.
In 2014, the Spain Park Chamber Choir and I were selected to perform for the annual Alabama Music Educators' Conference in Montgomery, AL, and in Spring of 2018, the Mountain Brook High School Chamber Choir was given the same honor.
I have a particular interest in teaching sight-singing and exposing students to challenging, unique, and exciting choral literature, and I have recently discovered a joy for teaching choreography for the Winter Show at MBHS! I am always looking forward to meeting new potential choir members, letting people see what choir is really about, and continuing making excellent music with students at Mountain Brook High School!
