Dr. Paul Kustos
The 2019-2020 school year will be Dr. Kustos's fourth at Mountain Brook High School and 16th year of teaching at the high school level. He has taught courses in algebra 2, precalculus, calculus, abstract algebra, number theory, and probability. This year he will be teaching advanced, dual-enrollment, and regular precalculus; dual enrollment calculus III; dual enrollment linear algebra; and accelerated algebra 2 with trig and precalculus, a course he designed and piloted in his first year at MBHS. He is also the math team sponsor at Mountain Brook High School.
Dr. Kustos graduated from Hoover High School (1997) and has a Bachelor of Science (2000, summa cum laude) degree in Mathematics and a Master of Science (2003) degree in Mathematics from Auburn University. He also has a Doctor of Philosophy (2010) degree in Secondary Curriculum & Instruction for Mathematics from The University of Alabama. His doctoral dissertation can be found here.
Outside of school, Dr. Kustos is married and has a daughter—he loves spending time with his family. He also enjoys listening to and collecting records and music; reading; playing ultimate; bowling; riding his bicycles (2002 Diamondback Topanga Comp Hardtail, 2010 Trek 2.1); and working crossword puzzles, logic puzzles, and Sudokus.
