Degrees and Certifications:

B.A. in Speech Pathology - Samford University M.Ed in Collaborative Education - University of South Alabama ASLTA Certified Level EIPA interpreter Certification

Mrs. Carole Murray

Carole Murray has been signing since she was nine years old and was a working interpreter since she was thirteen. She wanted to do something in the area of deafness. So, she received a Bachelor's Degree in Speech Pathology from Samford University and was working towards a Master's degree in Audiology.  During this time she continued to do community and college interpreting.  After receiving her Master's Degree in Collaborative Education from the University of South Alabama, she realized how sign language could benefit students of all abilities. She has additional graduate level work from George Mason University and the University of Alabama Birmingham.  Deaf Education and American Sign Language classes were taken at Gallaudet University, William Woods University and the University of Montevallo.  These classes allowed her to received the American Sign Language Teachers Association's Certified Level

Even though she enjoyed many interesting opportunities interpreting for all levels of education and various military and government contract facilities while living in the Washington D.C. area, her love was teaching ASL. She recently retired from teaching after being at Vestavia High School for the past 10 years.

She is thrilled to be teaching the ASL 1 classes at Mountain Brook. She hopes this program will grow and give the students a new way to communicate and a desire to connect with the Deaf community.

Carole lives with her husband, Rick, and her cat, Butters, who knows how to sit when signed to.
