Degrees and Certifications:
This is Sandy Ritchey’s second year to serve at The Bend. Sandy served last year as the Assistant Principal and this year will be her first year as Principal. Sandy specializes in the areas of literacy, assessment, curriculum, standards, and leadership. She believes that all students and educators are both teachers and learners. She has had considerable experience working with English Language Learners, Title I, and gifted students. She passionately believes in empowering teachers to become leaders in education. Sandy has been an educator for 16 years and has held positions as a 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade teacher, literacy coach, interventionist, and Assistant Principal. Sandy has a Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree in Elementary education, an administrative certificate, and Education Specialist’s degree in Leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She is currently a Doctoral Candidate at UAB as well. Sandy leads professional development at conferences and in school districts across Alabama. In 2017, Sandy was named as the Alternate Alabama State Elementary Teacher of the Year. Sandy Ritchey is excited about serving as Principal of Cherokee Bend. She looks forward to serving our students, teachers, and community!
