Dr. Sandy Ritchey
This is Sandy Ritchey’s fifth year to serve the Cherokee Bend community. She specializes in the areas of literacy, assessment, curriculum, instruction, standards, and leadership. Sandy believes that all students and educators are both leaders and learners. She has had considerable experience working with English Language Learners, Title I, and students in enrichment. She passionately believes in empowering teachers to become leaders in education. Sandy has been an educator for 19 years and has held positions as a 2nd, 3rd, and 5th-grade teacher, literacy coach, interventionist, and assistant principal. Sandy has a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Elementary education, an administrative certificate, an Education Specialist’s degree in Leadership, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Sandy leads professional development at conferences and in school districts across Alabama. In 2017, Sandy was named as the Alternate Alabama State Elementary Teacher of the Year. Sandy Ritchey is excited about serving as Principal of Cherokee Bend. She looks forward to serving our students, teachers, and community!
