Jane Major is a Birmingham native. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and Classical Civilization from the University of Mississippi. She spent three years teaching English at Brookwood Forest Elementary after which she pursued a law degree at Cumberland School of Law. She spent two years as law clerk to Judge Clarence Allgood, Senior District Court Judge. She also taught legal research and writing at Cumberland School of Law.
While in “retirement,” raising her two children, Mrs. Major worked as a free-lance editor and received a Master of Education in English degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After working as the executive director of the Mountain Brook City Schools Foundation, she taught English at Mountain Brook Junior High for ten years before moving to the high school in 2007. Mrs. Major received a performance award from the Mountain Brook City Schools in 2004. She was named a National Board Certified Teacher in 2005 and renewed that certification in 2015.
Mrs. Major was named Mountain Brook High School's Teacher of the Year for 2018 - 2019. She teaches Dual Enrollment and College Prep English 12, Mythology, and Philosophy and is the Senior Class Sponsor.
