We are so excited about this year’s 4th grade service project. We collaborated with the Birmingham YWCA to support their annual Santa’s Workshop. Each year, YWCA of Central Alabama hosts Santa’s Workshop to help families who are living in area homeless/transitional shelters or those otherwise in need to have a happy holiday season.
On the day of the event, children get to meet Santa and make gifts and crafts that they can give to parents, teachers, friends and other loved ones. Meanwhile, caregivers get to "shop" (everything is free) for toys and other gifts to give to their precious babies. Our 4th graders have collected toys for kids ages babies-18 years old. We collected over hundreds of items-19 bags and 2 large boxes of toys, clothes, electronics, and art supplies. The kids really put a lot of thought into the items they purchased. The 4th graders truly gave these kids things they would not otherwise be able to have. There were entire outfits, jackets, shoes, tablets, games, art kits, speakers/headphones, toy trains, baby jumpers, dolls, and so much more. It was truly amazing!
