Updating Java, Adobe, iTunes, Windows
1. On laptop (and desktop) computers, students and teachers should always run the following updates when prompted:
a. Adobe--the Adobe update icon will appear on the right of the taskbar at the bottom of your screen. Click it to launch the update. Click Install and wait. A window will appear letting you know it is complete. Close the window.
b. Java--the Java update icon will appear on the right of the taskbar at the bottom of your screen. Click it to launch the update. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to start installing. If the install does not launch, restart the computer and click the Java icon again. Click to install the updates. VERY IMPORTANT--when you see this window appear as part of the JAVA install, uncheck everything to do with the Ask Toolbar. (Do not set and keep, do not install.) Then click Next to finish the install. It may take a few minutes to install. It will open a
webpage when it is complete. Close thewebpage .c.
iTunes --the iTunes update will pop up automatically on your screen periodically. Click to install updates for iTunes and Quicktime if prompted.
2. On laptop computers (unlike desktop computers) Windows Updates need to be manually run periodically.
a. Click on Start/All Programs/Windows Update. Click on "Check online for updates from Windows Update."b. (Note that you get the message that Windows is up to date, but you need to click the "Check online" link for the updates to appear.)c. Install/Run all updates.
d. Restart the computer.e. Repeat steps a-c until (after you click "Check online for updates") you get the note that no updates are available.![]()
