With the basketball season coming to a close in early March, and the team getting ready for postseason, let's catch up with the girls basketball team and their January games.

The girls played Vestavia Hills for their first game of the month, resulting in a loss. The Lady Spartans followed up with another loss at Northridge, but these defeats were not a pattern. Their next two games, Hueytown and Briarwood Christain, both at home, resulted in two wins with an overwhelming 71-10 win versus Hueytown.

A 48-45 win against Briarwood Christain was followed by two loses against Chelsea and Homewood. The girls broke their losing run with a 44-31 win against Briarwood, an improvement from last year where they lost against them.

The last two games of the month were Area games against Chelsea and Homewood. These games are also the last Area games before the upcoming Area Tournament in February (with a Hewit game in between). The Lady Spartans lost both games, but Coach Price believes that they have a strong chance of winning their next game with Homewood, taking it “one step at a time.”

Overall,  January ended in a 3-6 record for the Lady Spartans. February and March are the last two months of the Spartan basketball season, with regionals in March being the main focus for the teams.

The Lady Spartans plan to end strong. Sophomore Emily Straughn explains how they plan to achieve that: “[we] wanna work together as one and each do our role as a player and trust each other throughout the process.”
