The indoor track season came to a close on Feb. 6 with the indoor track State Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex. The Mountain Brook girls finished in second place which included winning first place in the  4x400-meter relay and the 4x800-meter relay.

The girls’ team also had a first place finish as Grayson Scott won the girls’ high jump and finished second overall in the girls long jump and finished third overall in the girls’ triple jump. Other top girls finishers include Reagan Riley who finished second overall in the 1600-meter dash and finished third overall in the 3200-meter dash and Camille Gillum finished in third place in the girls’ high jump finals. Track team head coach Michael McGovern said, “the team exceeded my expectations, both teams easily finished higher than I anticipated.”

The boys’ team also finished higher than anticipated at 4th place in the meet. These top finishers for the boys  included Davis Plowden who finished third in the 800-meter dash, Hugh Stokes who finished third in the 60-meter hurdles and Thomas Renneker who finished third in the boys’ pole vault finals. When asked about the team's performance, Sophomore runner Clayton Collins said, “I was proud considering we were not predicted to go top 5.”

These results bring the indoor track season to a close, but they do set up for a strong second half of the season. This strong finish is setting up for a potential top finish in the outdoor track state championships. Coach McGovern is excited going into the outdoor season, saying, “I think this shows that we are ready to compete for a top two or three finish on both the girls and boys side.”
