Theatre Department to Put on Twelfth Night

Theatre Department to Put on Twelfth Night

By MOLLY MIDKIFF, Staff Writer

On March 6th, the theatre department announced their up and coming production of Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare. With this year having been very inactive for the department, this is definitely something to look forward to.

Twelfth Night is about a pair of siblings who get shipwrecked and separated off the coast of a mythical country called Illyria. It has it all: romance, drama, and comedy.

The decision to do Shakespeare was mainly due to copyright laws, so that if they had to livestream the performance due to the pandemic, they could legally do so.

“This has been a good teaching opportunity for students--getting into a classical work, learning about modern copyright laws and requirements, etc. The students wanted to do a classic and suggested Twelfth Night, so we went with it!” says Jesse Tilton, head of the theatre department.

They have also decided that, in true Shakespearean fashion, the show will be performed outside. This also helps with the social distancing guidelines they have to follow.

The production has been through it’s struggles due to the pandemic. Tilton says that time management has definitely been a struggle for everyone involved in the production, but he hopes that the play will provide a creative outlet for the students' stressful lives.

The show times are currently Friday April 30th and Saturday May 1st, and a possible rain day on the 2nd.
