Monday, May 19, 2025 – The Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education met Monday, May 19 at Mountain Brook Board of Education for the district’s monthly board meeting. Below is a rundown of the meeting:

Board Members present: Anna Comer, Jenifer Kimbrough, Daniel Odrezin, Jeffrey Brewer and Nicky Barnes.

Board Meeting Agenda

The meeting opened by approving minutes from the last board meeting.

Recognitions:

• Alabama State Representative David Faulkner presented the Board of Education with a check.
• MBJH student, Analei Dutton, was recognized for her ‘Best In Show’ artwork.
• The 2024-25 PTO council was recognized for their commitment and service to the school district and each of the six member schools throughout the year.
• Athletic Director, Andy Urban, provided the board members with an athletic spring recap citing all the success from all spring teams, student athletes and coaches.

Reports to the Board:

• MBS Chief School Financial Officer, Kari Austin, presented board members with the district’s monthly financial statements, which were unanimously approved. She then shared the FY24 Financial Audit which was unanimously approved.

• The board unanimously approved the latest personnel recommendations and unanimously approved miscellaneous items as surplus so that they can be discarded/donated/sold.
• The board unanimously approved to remove Policy J-35 Extracurricular Activities and the School Day.
• The board unanimously approved to remove Policy I-1 Study Skills and Homework.
• The board unanimously approved to remove Policy I-3 Planned Program of Studies for High School Students.
• The board unanimously approved to remove Policy I-4 Instructional Remediation.
• The board unanimously approved to award the Brookwood Forest Elementary Expansion  to Ranger Park bid to Struthers Recreation.*
• The board unanimously approved to award the Mountain Brook Elementary Library Renovation bid to H & L Construction.
• The board unanimously approved to table the 2025-2026 Mountain Brook Schools Board Meeting Calendar until the next Board meeting on June 9, 2025.
• The board unanimously approved to table the Social Studies Curriculum Framework until the  Board meeting on June 9, 2025
