Dr. Barlow Receives Leadership Award

Wednesday, July 16, 2025 – Mountain Brook Schools Superintendent Dr. Dicky Barlow was named the recipient of the Dr. Roland Chevalier Moral and Intellectual Leadership Award by the Schlechty Center and the Superintendents Leadership Network (SLN) in early July at the SLN summer institute.
This award is named after Dr. Roland Chevalier, a former superintendent and senior associate, who served at the Schlechty Center for many years before passing away from ALS several years ago. Schlechty Center President and CEO, Dr. Steve McCammon, said Chevalier was indicative of a moral and intellectual leader and Dr. Barlow certainly carries that legacy forward.
“In presenting the award to Dr. Barlow, I referenced that he is a humble leader that truly inspires his staff to always look at innovative ways to further improve the learning experience for the students and staff in his care,” McCammon said. “While Mountain Brook is nationally known for great performance, Dr. Barlow is always leading the way to consider how he can engage all stakeholders in improving the educational community locally. It is so obvious that he is not about resting on the laurels of past successes. We were truly proud to honor him.”
This award is presented to one superintendent each summer by the SLN. Barlow has served as Superintendent of Mountain Brook Schools since 2009.
