Tuesday, March 10, 2026 – The Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education met Monday, March 9 at the Mountain Brook Board of Education for the district’s monthly board meeting. Below is a rundown of the meeting:

Board Members present: Jenifer Kimbrough, Anna Comer, Jeffrey Brewer, Daniel Odrezin and Anne Schilleci.

Board Meeting Agenda

The meeting opened by approving minutes from the last board meeting.

Recognitions:

• Mountain Brook Schools’ four elementary schools were recently named Top City Schools by the Legislative School Performance Recognition program.
• Students, A.C Monk and Penelope Seifert, were recognized for their art’s performance in the State Superintendent’s Visual Art Exhibit A.T. won first place while Penelope’s piece was named honorable mention!
• Alabama DECA State Competition students were recognized.
• Five MBHS students were named U.S. Presidential Scholars Program candidates! Congratulations to Emmy Grace Cribbs, Kinleigh Freeman, Sisi Holden, Hill McCluney and Bethany Yin.
• State Representative David Faulkner presented Dr. Barlow and the board members with a check.

Reports to the Board:

• Financial Statements and cash balances were presented to the board from Chief School Financial Officer, Kari Austin.

Old Business

• The 2028-2029 Academic Calendar was approved.
• The Arts Education material adoption was both approved.
• The Social Studies material adoption was tabled due to the state’s upcoming potential action.

New Business

• The board unanimously approved the latest personnel recommendations and various items as surplus to be discarded properly.

• Spring Break - March 23-27, 2026 - All Schools and Offices Closed
• Next Board Meeting - Monday, April 13th at 3:30 p.m. with work session at 2:00 p.m. at the Mountain Brook School Board of Education building (32 Vine Street, Mountain Brook, AL 35213)
