Boys Golf Claim State Championship, Girls Place 3rd

The Mountain Brook Boys Golf team delivered a historic performance at the AHSAA State Championships this week, capturing the 6A state title while tying the all-time 36-hole state scoring record at an incredible -32.
The Spartans set the tone immediately with a blistering Round 1 score of -25, establishing a new single-day team scoring record and separating themselves from the field early. The Spartans maintained that momentum throughout Tuesday’s round to secure another championship performance for the program and the first title since 2022 (11th in program history).
Leading the way was freshman SJ Thomas, who earned medalist honors with a phenomenal -12 tournament score. Thomas also tied the 36-hole individual state scoring record with a total of 132.
The Spartans showcased impressive depth throughout the lineup:
- SJ Thomas — 1st place (-12)
- Denton Brooks — 2nd place (-11)
- Fletcher Finch — 4th place (-4)
- Ryan Pugh — T5 (-3)
- Ford Birchall — T7 (-2)
The championship total of -32 tied the previous state record, which was also set by a Mountain Brook team in 2018, further cementing the program’s place among Alabama’s premier golf dynasties.
Girls team:
The Mountain Brook Girls Golf team swung their way to a strong third-place finish, showcasing consistency and resilience throughout the tournament.
Competing against some of the top programs in the state, the Spartans placed multiple golfers inside the top 10 individually.
Individual finishes included:

- Elise Lamkin — T7
- Kate Butrus — 14th
- Juliette Cook — 16th
Rice and Lamkin were knotted up all post season. The pair tied not only in the state championships but also tied for first at sub-state and sectionals. Congratulations ladies!
