Tuesday, May 19, 2026 – The Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education met Monday, May 18 at the Mountain Brook Board of Education for the district’s monthly board meeting. Below is a rundown of the meeting:

Board Members present: Jenifer Kimbrough, Anna Comer, Jeffrey Brewer, Daniel Odrezin and Anne Schilleci.

Board Meeting Agenda

The meeting opened by approving minutes from the last board meeting.

Recognitions:

• The 2025-2026 PTO Council was recognized for their service to our schools and district this school year.
• The MBJH and MBHS speech and debate teams were recognized for their exemplary performance at the Alabama Speech and Debate Tournament as well as their success throughout the past year.
• A spring sports update was provided to board members by MBHS Principal Carrie Busby. Recognitions included the celebration of state championship programs: boys golf, boys tennis, girls tennis and girls outdoor track.
• Students in the MBHS personal finance class were recognized for their performance growing their portfolios and competition results.
• Dr. Barlow highlighted those transitioning in leadership roles including Lindsay Webster replacing Lanie Kent (retirement), Nathan Pitner replacing Susan Cole (retirement), and Lars Porter replacing Carrie Busby (retirement).

Reports to the Board:

• Financial Statements and cash balances were presented to the board from Chief School Financial Officer, Kari Austin.
• Dr. Barlow read aloud a summer facilities report highlighting minor renovations and changes taking place this summer on school properties.

Old Business

• The AP Business and Personal Finance materials adoption was approved.

New Business

• The board unanimously approved the latest personnel recommendations and various items as surplus to be discarded properly.
• The 2026-2027 Mountain Brook Schools board meeting calendar was tabled for board member’s review.
