January Board of Education Meeting Report

Tuesday, January 13, 2026 – The Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education met Monday, January 12 at Mountain Brook Junior High School for the district’s monthly board meeting. Below is a rundown of the meeting:
Board Members present: Jenifer Kimbrough, Anna Comer, Jeffrey Brewer, Daniel Odrezin and Anne Schilleci.
Board Meeting Agenda
The meeting opened by approving minutes from the last board meeting.
Recognitions:
- 2025-2026 MBS District Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year. Click here to read more about our teachers of the year.
- 7th and 8th grade boys and girls cross country was recognized for their 2025 fall Metro Championship
- MBS District BCBA, Olivia Pope, was recognized for completing the SELI program. The Special Education Leadership Institute equips administrators with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the field of special education.
- MBHS senior, Kinleigh Freeman, was recognized for being named to the United States Senate Youth Program. She is one of only two Delegates from Alabama for the 64th Annual United States Senate Youth Program, which will take place in Washington, D.C., March 7–14. This honor includes a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship and places her among a highly competitive group of students nationwide.
Reports to the Board:
- Financial Statements were presented to the board from Chief School Financial Officer, Kari Austin.
Old Business
- Media Arts Course of Study was unanimously approved.
- AP Business / Personal Finance Course Curriculum was unanimously approved.
New Business
- The board unanimously approved the latest personnel recommendations and various items as surplus to be discarded properly.

- Monday, January 19, 2026 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day - All schools and offices closed
- Next Board Meeting - Monday, February 9th at 3:30 p.m. with work session at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Brook High School.
