Zach Allison Named MBHS Boys Basketball Coach

Zach Allison was approved by the Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education on Monday to be the next varsity boys basketball head coach at Mountain Brook High School. Coach Allison comes to Mountain Brook after serving as head coach at Jackson Prep in Mississippi (2023-26) and Heritage Academy (2022-23).
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Mountain Brook family,” Allison said. “Not just Mountain Brook basketball, but the Mountain Brook community. We are going to continue the historic success on the court and take pride in developing a program all the way through our school system.”
Allison owns a 94-39 overall record as a head coach. He won the 2025 MAIS overall state championship while at Jackson Prep and led the Patriots to a 6A runner-up finish in 2024 and 2026. He was named 2025 MAIS Boys Coach of the Year in Mississippi. Prior to being a head coach, Allison was an assistant coach at Jackson Prep for three years. A graduate of Pelham High School, Zach went on to play college basketball at Auburn, Wallace State and Birmingham Southern. He finished his playing career earning First-Team All SAA and SAA All-Tournament Team honors.
“Zach brings so much more to the table than just wins and great basketball knowledge,” MBHS Athletic Director Andy Urban said. “His track record is tremendous and he drives communities forward using basketball as a vessel to foster community involvement/service. Zach also thrives in developing a passion for the game with younger students. We are excited for him to join us and get started soon.”
Allison coaches a style of play that players and fans will enjoy.
“There will be some similarities with the style of play to what the community is used to watching,” Allison said. “We want to push the pace and play an exciting brand of basketball that translates to winning.”
He added that he considers it a privilege to take over a program that has ascended to a national scale.
“Those who have come before me have raised the bar and set a high standard of excellence,” Allison said. “As a competitor, I am excited to embrace expectations and the tradition of winning that the community expects. I look forward to leading the young men in our school system, and getting to know the people that make Mountain Brook a special place.”
Allison replaces Tyler Davis who stepped down as head coach in March. Zach is the 9th boys basketball head coach in school history.
